About the ER34
The ER34 25GT Turbo is the rear-drive, non-GT-R R34, sold as a sedan and a coupe. Its RB25DET NEO inline-six is rated at 280 PS at 6,400 rpm and 343 Nm, or 363 Nm on five-speed manuals from August 2000.
Buyers want it as an affordable rear-drive turbo Skyline with GT-R looks, at a fraction of GT-R money. The R34 range began in May 1998.
Carsensor dates the R34 Skyline range from May 1998 to May 2001. The turbo line came in two grades, the 25GT Turbo and the better-equipped 25GT-X Turbo, priced new at ¥2.876–3.205 million before tax in 1999–2000. Its RB25DET was rated at 280 PS, the same quoted figure as the GT-R, for ¥1.8–2.1 million less than the ¥4.998 million R34 GT-R.

Can an ER34 come in?
Both countries count from the month on the build plate, so a car can become eligible part-way through a year. We check the plate on every car.
Quebec registers right-hand-drive cars only at 25 years. Every other province follows the federal 15-year rule.
US sourcing is planned for 2027, once a customs broker confirms the duty rate on Japanese classics. Enquiries are welcome now.

What to look at on an ER34
The model-specific weak points we look for in the auction sheet, the photos and the scan.
Rust
Check the rear arches, sills, rails, boot floor and suspension mounts.
Cooling
Check the radiator, hoses and fan, and watch the temperature gauge on a long test drive.
Manual conversions
Ask for invoices on any automatic-to-manual conversion.
GT-R clones
Worth checking the chassis code. GT-R bodywork and badges on an ER34 are common.
Engine noise
Worth listening for a rattle from the variable cam timing on start-up.
What we check on every ER34
The auction sheet, in full
Every line of the original Japanese sheet translated: repair marks, rust notes, interior score.
The build plate
The month of manufacture decides eligibility, so we read it off the car, not the registration.
Mileage against the records
Dash and ECU against the auction sheet and Japan's inspection history.
Flood and accident history
Checked before export, while a claim is still possible.
A full diagnostic scan
Every module read inside the auction's 5-day claim window, so a hidden fault goes back to the seller.
Underneath
Chassis rails, floors and suspension, where snow-country salt does its damage.

ER34 buyer questions
Is every ER34 25GT Turbo US-legal now?
Yes, if it was built by May 2001. Carsensor gives the R34 Skyline range as May 1998 to May 2001, so the last cars passed the US 25-year rule in May 2026. All builds are well past Canada's 15-year rule. Check the plate's build month.
Manual or automatic?
Both were offered. Factory manual cars are the ones enthusiasts want, so ask for proof that a manual car left the factory that way, or invoices for a conversion. The automatic is rated at 34 kgm of torque on Carsensor's spec sheet.
What does an ER34 cost in Japan?
Carsensor's average for all non-GT-R R34 Skylines was about ¥3.05 million in October 2026, including non-turbo cars. A 25GT Turbo listing asked about ¥5.26 million. Turbo cars sit above the average, and freight and compliance costs come on top.
