About the DC5
The DC5 Integra Type R is the Japanese-market version of the car North America knew as the Acura RSX. It uses the K20A 2.0 L i-VTEC four with front-wheel drive, and the Type R adds equipment the RSX Type-S lacked, including a limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes.
JDMBuySell gives its Japanese on-sale date as 2 July 2001, so the first cars became US-eligible in July 2026, and importers are marketing it as one of the year’s headline arrivals.
The DC5 kept the Type R recipe of a high-revving engine and a limited-slip differential, now with a 220 PS K20A and a six-speed manual. In 2002 Honda moved its one-make race series from the Civic Type R to the DC5, and it ran until 2007. The 2004 update made an immobiliser standard and added an optional low rear wing. Production ended in June 2006, but Japanese Wikipedia says sales continued until February 2007.

Can a DC5 come in?
Both countries count from the month on the build plate, so a car can become eligible part-way through a year. We check the plate on every car.
Quebec registers right-hand-drive cars only at 25 years. Every other province follows the federal 15-year rule.
US sourcing is planned for 2027, once a customs broker confirms the duty rate on Japanese classics. Enquiries are welcome now.

What to look at on a DC5
The model-specific weak points we look for in the auction sheet, the photos and the scan.
Gearbox
Worth checking second and third gear synchros, a common wear point on these six-speeds.
Timing chain
Worth listening for a tensioner rattle on a cold start.
Rust
Worth checking the rear arches and strut towers.
Clutch hydraulics
Worth checking the clutch master and slave cylinders for leaks.
Track history
Ask about modifications and track use.
What we check on every DC5
The auction sheet, in full
Every line of the original Japanese sheet translated: repair marks, rust notes, interior score.
The build plate
The month of manufacture decides eligibility, so we read it off the car, not the registration.
Mileage against the records
Dash and ECU against the auction sheet and Japan's inspection history.
Flood and accident history
Checked before export, while a claim is still possible.
A full diagnostic scan
Every module read inside the auction's 5-day claim window, so a hidden fault goes back to the seller.
Underneath
Chassis rails, floors and suspension, where snow-country salt does its damage.

DC5 buyer questions
When does a DC5 become US-legal?
The DC5 went on sale in July 2001, so the earliest builds turned 25 in July 2026 and later cars follow month by month until June 2031. Check the build month on the plate. Canada accepts every DC5 under its 15-year rule.
How is it different from the Acura RSX Type-S?
The Japanese Type R adds a limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes, which the RSX Type-S lacked, and is rated at 220 PS at 8,000 rpm. It is right-hand drive, so check provincial or state registration rules before you buy.
Early or late car?
Early cars (2001–03) are the first to clear the US 25-year rule. The 2004 update brought a standard immobiliser and an optional low wing. Either way, check the six-speed synchros and listen for timing-chain tensioner rattle on a cold start.
