About the C34

The C34 Laurel debuted on 25 January 1993 and was succeeded in June 1997. It is a rear-drive four-door sedan; the RB25DE 2.5 L inline-six is confirmed for the Medalist V, Medalist S and Club S.

Turbocharged RB25DET cars exist, but their grade names and output are unconfirmed, so we check each car’s engine code before quoting. The factory manual gearbox was offered only with the diesel engine, so a manual petrol car is a conversion.

The C34 moved the Laurel from a 5-number pillarless hardtop to a larger 3-number pillared hardtop, which improved access and cabin space. In January 1994 Nissan added the 2.5 L RB25DET turbo six, with retuned suspension and bigger brakes. Turbo grades were the 25 Club S Turbo, the Club S Turbo Type X, offered with Super HICAS and ABS, and the 25 Medalist V Turbo.

Eligibility

Can a C34 come in?

Both countries count from the month on the build plate, so a car can become eligible part-way through a year. We check the plate on every car.

Canada15-year rule
Every year eligible now

Quebec registers right-hand-drive cars only at 25 years. Every other province follows the federal 15-year rule.

United States25-year rule
Every year eligible now

US sourcing is planned for 2027, once a customs broker confirms the duty rate on Japanese classics. Enquiries are welcome now.

What to look at on a C34

The model-specific weak points we look for in the auction sheet, the photos and the scan.

  • Manual conversion

A manual petrol car has been converted. Ask for invoices and check the work.

  • Differential

The differential differs by engine and date. Confirm what is fitted.

  • Engine code

Confirm whether the car has the RB25DE or the turbo RB25DET.

  • Rust

Worth checking the sills, arches and boot floor.

  • Turbo

On turbo cars, check for smoke on start-up and under boost.

Quality control

What we check on every C34

  • The auction sheet, in full

Every line of the original Japanese sheet translated: repair marks, rust notes, interior score.

  • The build plate

The month of manufacture decides eligibility, so we read it off the car, not the registration.

  • Mileage against the records

Dash and ECU against the auction sheet and Japan's inspection history.

  • Flood and accident history

Checked before export, while a claim is still possible.

  • A full diagnostic scan

Every module read inside the auction's 5-day claim window, so a hidden fault goes back to the seller.

  • Underneath

Chassis rails, floors and suspension, where snow-country salt does its damage.

What landing one costs: see the worked examples; an enquiry gets you the figure for this car. New to auction sheets? Read how to read one.

Questions

C34 buyer questions

Is the C34 Laurel eligible?

Yes. Carsensor lists C34 production from January 1993 to May 1997, so every car has passed the US 25-year rule and Canada's 15-year rule. Both count from the build month on the plate.

Which Laurel has the turbo?

Look for the 25 Club S Turbo, Club S Turbo Type X or 25 Medalist V Turbo, sold from January 1994. Carsensor rates the RB25DET at 235 PS. New prices for the turbo grades ran from ¥2.826 million to ¥3.298 million before tax.

What does a C34 cost in Japan?

Carsensor's average across all C34 grades was under ¥1 million in October 2026, but that includes many 2.0 L Medalists. A 142,000 km 25 Medalist V Turbo asked about ¥2.88 million. Freight and compliance are extra.
