About the JZX110

The X110 Mark II launched in October 2000, and production ended in October 2004; the Grande iR-V was renamed iR-V in October 2002. Its sister, the Verossa, was built from June 2001 to April 2004, with the VR25 turbo grade launched in July 2001. Both use the 1JZ-GTE 2.5 L turbo inline-six, rated at 280 PS at 6,200 rpm, with rear-wheel drive.

These are the last 1JZ-GTE manual sedans. The Verossa is rare: 26,054 were built across all trims.

The Verossa arrived in June 2001 to replace the Chaser and Cresta, combining the Chaser’s sporting side with the Cresta’s luxury. Its name joins the Italian words vero and rosso. The VR25 revived the Tourer V formula: a single-turbo 1JZ-GTE with a five-speed manual option and a standard limited-slip differential. Sales were poor, and production ended in April 2004.

Eligibility

Can a JZX110 come in?

Both countries count from the month on the build plate, so a car can become eligible part-way through a year. We check the plate on every car.

Canada15-year rule
Every year eligible now

Quebec registers right-hand-drive cars only at 25 years. Every other province follows the federal 15-year rule.

United States25-year rule
Built up to Oct 2001: eligible now. Later builds roll in through 2029

US sourcing is planned for 2027, once a customs broker confirms the duty rate on Japanese classics. Enquiries are welcome now.

Which cars roll in next? See the 2027 US calendar and the 2027 Canada calendar.

Buying one

What to look at on a JZX110

The model-specific weak points we look for in the auction sheet, the photos and the scan.

  • 1JZ engine

Worth checking the coil packs and listening for VVT-i rattle, as on the JZX100.

  • Manual gearbox

Manual cars are scarce. Confirm a manual is factory from the model code.

  • Electronics

Worth checking for electronic throttle and ECU faults.

  • Condition

Clean, rust-free cars are mostly in Japan. Check the auction sheet carefully.

Quality control

What we check on every JZX110

  • The auction sheet, in full

Every line of the original Japanese sheet translated: repair marks, rust notes, interior score.

  • The build plate

The month of manufacture decides eligibility, so we read it off the car, not the registration.

  • Mileage against the records

Dash and ECU against the auction sheet and Japan's inspection history.

  • Flood and accident history

Checked before export, while a claim is still possible.

  • A full diagnostic scan

Every module read inside the auction's 5-day claim window, so a hidden fault goes back to the seller.

  • Underneath

Chassis rails, floors and suspension, where snow-country salt does its damage.

What landing one costs: see the worked examples; an enquiry gets you the figure for this car. New to auction sheets? Read how to read one.

Questions

JZX110 buyer questions

Can I import a JZX110 to the US now?

Only early cars. Under the 25-year rule, only cars built before about October 2001 qualify now, which covers early Mark II Grande iR-Vs and the first Verossa VR25s. Later cars follow month by month until 2029. In Canada, every JZX110 clears the 15-year rule.

Mark II iR-V or Verossa VR25?

Mechanically they are close. Toyota’s catalogue gives both 280 PS, 38.5 kgm and 1,520 kg as manuals. The choice is mostly styling and availability: Carsensor listed 47 X110 Mark IIs and 21 Verossas of all grades in October 2026.

Is a factory manual hard to find?

Yes. Both cars were offered with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, and the manuals are scarce and sought after. Confirm the gearbox from the model and grade codes, as with the JZX100.
